New Course Highlights

*ASP.NET Web Development Intermediate*

This class is a continuation of Beginning Web Development with ASP.NET so I will get right into explaining to students in the first two lessons how to create a web site design template using ASP.NET. I will
explain how Master Pages work and how you can create a structured, consistent design for all your web pages (.aspx). I will then continue with more website design examples on showing how to convert an exisiting HTML-based design to ASP.NET. You will learn how you can debug your web pages and find your errors and correct them as well as write code (C#) to help prevent errors from happening. More “intermediate” topics will be covered such as creating objects from classes and how to programmatically maintain state from your pages using different techniques such as cookies, sessions, viewstate and redirects. More involvement in using ASP.NET controls will be covered as well as how to instantiate controls at runtime while your web page is being viewed by the web visitor. This will allow your visitors to have a more customized, unique web experience without having to even use a database. Visit our Web Programming Campus to learn more.

*Blogging Basics*

Are you wondering what blogging is all about? Do you want to know how you can use a blog to create an online journal, your own soap box or maybe to promote your business? Maybe you have started a blog before but feel like you need a little direction or support? If you answered yes, we have the class you are looking for! Blogs are a great way to keep up to date with friends, family, your hobbies, your interests and your business concerns. Blogs can be easier to set up and maintain then most other web sites, making them accessible to many more people. The other thing that makes blogs different is how they encourage and facilitate a dialog between you and your readers. Now you can have a
voice on the web. Visit our Computers & Internet to learn more.

*Blogging for Fun, Fame, and Fortune* (revised)

Blogging is taking the world by storm! The heart of its power lies in its immediacy of publishing information, the ease of setting up and maintaining a blog and its interaction with its users. Blogs are used for everything from private family updates to journals to product reviews to photo journals to political podiums. As well as being a satisfying outlet on a personal level, blogs can be a powerful communication tool. Businesses, from freelancers to large corporations like Boeing, are using blogs to promote their products/services, gain and maintain customer loyalty, obtain customer feedback, and communicate news to their customers. In addition to business, blogs are a very effective means of communicating about social, health, technology, political and art issues.

During this course, you will learn about the art and science of blogging. We will use the popular and FREE WordPress software to install and administer our blog. We will cover how to write engaging titles and blog posts, how to use blog directories, how to build authority in the blogging world and how to share your blog with others. We will focus on the interactive nature of blogging and how to increase participation on your blog without a lot of spam. There is so much happening in the world of blogging and blogging promotion, that it is hard to cover it all in six weeks. With this in mind, the course will vary slightly each session to allow us to devote more time to study and put into practice different blog elements. The purpose is twofold. First, blogging is all about community. This course is designed to create, nurture and support a community of LVS Bloggers. You can take this course once for the content or you can take it multiple times as a means of “continuing education” and networking. The second purpose is to provide dynamic and up to date information about blogging. Visit our Computers & Internet Campus to learn more.

*Corel Painter X Level II: The Journey Continues*

Intro to Painter X Level II, the journey continues, is the second part of a two part set of lessons, with each set of building upon the previous one. This section will show you how to use layers in Painter, including the use of composite methods and transparency. You’ll also learn how to create custom palettes and other custom items and how to back them up for safekeeping. You’ll have fun exploring many of Painter’s unique and/or useful effects, and Painter’s vast libraries of Matierials. You’ll also learn how to use Layer Masks, and I’ll even teach you how to draw or paint a straight line without using a ruler! By the time you finish this class, you’ll be ready to either continue exploring Painter on your own, or to take more advanced classes using Corel Painter. Visit our Graphics Campus to learn more.

*CorelDRAW X4 Intro Part 2*

Part 2 picks up right where Part 1 left off. We’ll explore the rest of the toolbox, learn about a few more dockers, and discover a lot of the things CorelDRAW can do with bitmaps right within the CorelDRAW program. As we learn, we’ll create a couple of practical projects and have a lot of fun along the way. Visit our Graphics Campus to learn more.

*Corel Painter – Introduction to Brushes*

Corel’s Painter X is the leading digital painting application software. Painter’s Brush tools offer a wide range of preset painting and drawing tools called Brush Variants. These Variants are organised into Categories: Airbrushes, Oils, Calligraphy, Pencils, so on and so forth. Painter Brushes are designed with real media in mind. For example: you can select a Fine Camel brush variant from the Watercolour Category by using the Brush Selector bar, here you can have quick access to all Brush Categories and Variants at your fingertips, beautiful Pastels, Watercolour, Oils and that brush you select will simulate real media. One of Painter X’s great features is the creation of the RealBristle Brush and Variants that produce a natural movement of a artist’s brush. This feature heightens the responsiveness of your brush in a totally new way. You can replicate the sensation and interaction between paint, canvas and brush. There’s no other program that can let you experience this. Introduction to Painter Brushes is written with the Beginner of Painter X in mind. If you have a older version of Painter, then you can actively partake of the course too. The list below is just a selection of the areas that you will explore during the next six weeks.

  • Digital Watercolour,Watercolour & Ink
  • Creating your own brushes
