Photo Workflow
May 18th, 2008 PSP Instructors
Are you new to photo editing work? If so, keep in mind that you’ll get much better results if you perform your editing tasks in the proper order. In general, follow these steps:
- Correct the color.
- Be sure the tonal range is complete.
- Tweak the brightness/contrast.
- Adjust the saturation.
- Crop and resize, if needed.
- Sharpen.
Here’s one exception: If your photo needs a major adjustment in tone, swap the order of steps 1 and 2. That is, adjust the tonal range before correcting the color.
And if you need to correct lens distortion, be sure to perform the lens distortion correction as your very, very first step, particularly before straightening or cropping your photo. The reason for this is that the lens distortion correction algorithms depend on direct-from-the-camera results. Crop or straighten first, and your results are sure to be disappointing.
Well, that gives you the basic idea.
In a later post, I’ll go into some detail on basic photo editing in PSP.
