Piano Lessons – 2 Tips

Piano Lessons (1) How Chords can be Inverted: – Chords can be inverted by placing the root note (the bottom or lowest note) above the other two notes of the chord. For example the notes of the C major chord in root position are C, E and G. The notes now played are E, G and C, and the chord is said to be in first inversion. If the E is placed above G and C, the chord is in second inversion. Each position of the chord has its own sound. The chord in root position  sounds more settled, whereas the first and second inversions  sound more unsettled.

Piano Lessons (2): – The next two most important chords in a key are the chord built on the fifth note (the dominant note) and the fourth note (the subdominant note) of the scale, in that order.  In the scale of C major the dominant chord is G, B and D; and the subdominant chord is F, A and C.

The next piano lesson (tip) will explain why it is very useful to know all the chords in their inversions as well as the root position; and also how many tunes use just two or three chords (the primary chords) in their construction.

*Corel Painter PhotoPainting & Portraiture I*

I have heard people say “I can’t paint, not even a straight line”. The great news is Corel has provided the Painter Software that will enable the most amateur artist to paint beautiful, painterly masterpieces. I’m delighted to help you learn this. However, like all painting and drawing, it does require lots of patience and practise. Once you’ve been bitten by the PhotoPainting bug you won’t want to stop!

This course is the first of three in PhotoPainting & Portraiture. You start with the basics; a simple clone then on to painting Still Life, Landscapes and Portraits by making application of Painter’s brushes, textures and other applications and much more.

Each week you are given an image and step by step instruction to transform a photograph into a lovely, painterly image. You are then requested to paint your own. Do not feel daunted by this. *Flash CS4 Introduction*

Since its introduction in 1996, Flash has become a popular method for adding animation and interactivity to web pages. Flash is commonly used to create animation, advertisements, and various web page Flash components, to integrate video into web pages, and more recently, to develop rich Internet applications.

This 6 week Intro course focuses on learning the interface, tools, and basic features of Flash. You will create animated logos, buttons, and simple movies to brighten up your web site.

Flash gives web developers the ability to create interactive, animated web sites. Before Flash appeared on the scene, creating animated web sites (especially with sound) involved using large, multiple files. This requires high bandwidth that the general public does not have. Flash files, in contrast, can be very small, so bandwidth is less of a concern. *Personal Finance*

This is a course that teaches you the core basics of managing your personal finances. It is very important, especially in the recent economy, to have an understanding of how to manage assets and budget properly. *Photoshop Elements 8 Basics II: Clear Sailing*

This class is the second part of the Photoshop Elements 8 Basics class, and contains lessons 7-12. This class picks up where the first class, Photoshop Elements 8 Basics (Lessons 1-6) left off. You will learn to understand and use layers effectively, use layer blend modes, use the Preset Manager, create and save custom brushes, use type and vector shapes and much more. Podcasting is an exciting technology that has become very popular on the web and in the media. New services for listening to and creating podcasts are constantly popping up. This industry is seeing very exciting growth. Since podcasting became popular in the fall of 2004, thousands of shows have been created. So why is podcasting so great? You can listen to what you want, when you want, and how you want. Anyone can create a podcast. All you need is a computer, a microphone, speakers, and the Internet. Podcasting takes very little time and very little cost.

People will pay money for valuable information. You can listen to audio podcasts on anything that plays MP3s. This online course will take you through the basics of finding podcasts on the web, software and hardware for podcasting, listening to podcasts, writing podcasts, recording podcasts, and publishing your own podcasts on the web. Piano Lessons – 2 Tips

Piano lessons (1) Knowing the Key of a Piece of Music: – Key means the scale of the notes contained in the piece of music. If there are no sharps or flats in the key signature, the piece will be in the key of C major or A minor. These are related keys and both have the same key signature i.e. no sharps or flats. The scale of C major consists of the notes C D E F G A B C. Play them going up (ascending) and going down (descending) using one finger if you don’t know the scale with the correct fingering. The scale of A minor consists of the notes A B C D E F Gsharp A.

In the first and last measures you will usually see the notes C E and G, and this piece would be in the key of C major. If the first and last measures had the notes A C and E, the piece would be in the key of A minor.

Piano lessons (2) It is beneficial to know why chords are named C chord, A minor chord etc. In the scale of C major the most important chord is C chord. The notes of the chord are C E G, and are built up in 3rds from the tonic or the first note (C) of the scale. In music it is denoted by the letter C and this is called a chord symbol, the chord being called C chord. The notes are C E G and the chord is named by the bottom or lowest note C. This chord is said to be in root position and the root note is C.

Minor chords are designated by the root note of the chord followed by a lower-case m standing for minor. Therefore A minor chord is denoted by the letters Am, the notes being A C E.

The next piano lesson (tip) will explain how these chords can be inverted, and also the next two most important chords in a key (scale).

Piano Lessons – 2 Tips

Piano Lessons – 1: Knowing the following is essential for reading music notes on the staff. The letter names of the treble line notes are E G B D F and treble space notes are F A C E. If you are having difficulty in reading a note, ask yourself “Is it a line note or space note?” If it is a line note on the fourth line, work your way up from the bottom line i.e. E G B D; the answer is ‘D’. Similarly, if it is a space in the second space, work your way up from the bottom space i.e. F A; the answer is ‘A’.This is a systematic way of working out the letter name of a note. Remember that ‘E’ on the first line is the ‘E’ two notes to the right of Middle C on the keyboard, and ‘F’ in the first space is three notes to the right of Middle C on the keyboard.

Piano Lessons – 2: The letter names of the bass line notes are G B D F A and the bass space notes are A C E G; i.e. just delete the bottom letter of the treble lines or spaces, and add a letter at the top. Remember that ‘G’ on the first line is the second ‘G’ down from Middle C on the keyboard, and ‘A’ in the first space is the second ‘A’ down from Middle C on the keyboard.

Piano Lessons – 2: There are two elements to touch on the piano. They are the speed of the depression of the key, and weight. For example, if you want to play a fast scale softly, each key would have to be taken down rapidly (quick speed of depression) with just finger weight (light weight).

Piano Lessons – 3 Tips

Piano Lessons – 1: Technique starts with being able to activate each finger independently. Place your hand as though holding a ball with all finger tips touching the surface of a table. Move your thumb  up and down five times with an even rhythm while the tips of the other fingers remain still with no hand movement. Repeat this exercise with each finger. Carry out the same exercises with each finger of the other hand.

Piano Lessons – 2: With the right pedal depressed play glissando with the backs of your right hand finger from the lowest part of the keyboard going to the highest. When you reach the middle of the piano, release the pedal to hear the cut off.

Piano Lessons – 3: Using all your fingers of each hand play the whole tone scale descending from the C one octave above Middle C with the right pedal depressed. You will hear a fascinating sound. Just play ten notes black or white and make sure there is one key between each note you play. Play the notes evenly and as fast as you like.
