Mahalo to Bev

February 26th, 2009 Hillary

I’d like to personally thank Bev so much for assisting me in teaching this course.  Without her I couldn’t have offered the class at LVS as I’m transitioning from GA back to HI and right now I’m stuck in Palm Desert.

I ran across this little gem and just had to post it!

School Days, School Days — Tell your friends!

October 26th, 2008 Hillary

Hiya Gang!

The classrooms at LVS open on Monday, October 27. Registration closes the following Wednesday, October 29 and the first lesson will be posted on Saturday, November 1.

I promise that we’ll have an advanced class coming as soon as I’m settled back in Hawaii and on the beach. (I’ll even leave some boxes packed).

In the meantime, you’re cordially invited to sign up for my Digital Art class (using your skills with PI) or any of our other fine courses taught at LVS!

I had a great group of students this last semester and they all seemed to have fun!

Alohas for now,
Hillary

New Link for PI Users

August 22nd, 2008 Hillary

Sheryl (LVS-Pixel Art) and I have been working on keyboard shortcuts for PI users, along with one of the Corel engineers and I am still in the process of making sure we have every possible helpful tip available to you. In the interim, please check out this page. For those of you oldtimers, as well as the newbies, you are sure to find this helpful.

Fall Registration Open at LVS Online Classes

August 7th, 2008 Hillary

I hope you all had a great summer vacation and got lots of rest! Yup, it’s THAT time again…

Classrooms will open on Aug. 25, 2008.
Registration ends on Aug. 27, 2008.
The first lesson will post on Aug. 30, 2008.

These are the courses I’ll be teaching:
Digital Art
This course introduces the basics of digital drawing and the principles of art in general which are applicable for any graphics program as well as RL (real life) artistic endeavors.. Any graphics program that has brushes which can be used for blending and retouching will work for this course.

Digital Art, Beyond the Basics
n this course, we will explore beyond the basics of digital drawing and painting, and helping you to find the digital medium you are comfortable with while challenging you to paint in mediums you are not. Focus will be on drawing and painting from scratch using brushes and retouch tools in your graphic software program including but not limited to Photo Impact, Painter, Paintshop Pro, and Photoshop, though you will be encouraged to practice concepts on a sketchpad, as well.

Digital Artist’s Studio
A “virtual art studio” which will offer a pot pourri of subject matter and a new and different assignment each week, varying from semester to semester — so it’s an ongoing, never-ending fun experience. You’ll be encouraged to submit your own ideas as well as those of your humble instructor, moi! I’ve come up with some imaginative assignments and approaches, which vary from semi-nude to cartoons! The sky’s the limit (in fact one assignment was about akies…LOL). It does require that you have completed both the Digital Art and Beyond the Basics class so you will be confident in your ability to express yourself artistically and have fun at the same time!

TWO NEW COURSES:
PhotoImpact X3 Intro
This is a great introductory course covering the wonderful possibilities of PhotoImpact X3 (now owned by Corel) for both graphic artists, photographers, as well as those who want just a good photo-sharing program. It’s bundled with Corel’s Media One as well as Painter Essentials 3 and LVS offers a discount on this great program. An Overview can be found here: Corel’s PhotoImpact X3 I’ve used PI since Version 4.0 and beta tested it for a couple of versions, so I’m very prejudiced in favor of it. It’s powerful, inexpensive and user-friendly! There are lots of exercises and assignments, so you’ll get very familiar with the tools, menu commands and image editing tasks.

Astrological Card Reading
I know…you’re asking how I found time to learn about astrology. It’s because I think there are 48 hours in every day. I was a professional astrologer for many years and also taught astrology while living in Los Angeles. I learned a wonderful technique and want to share it with those of you who are interested in the “art” of reading cards for yourselves and others. You need no previous experience or knowledge of Astrology as I will give you all the tools and information necessary. Actually, the only “tools” you’ll need will be a deck of regular playing cards with two jokers. BTW, skeptics are more than welcome to take this class — I relish the opportunity take on challengers!

Sorry that this has been such a long post — but I wanted to let you know that we are offering a lot of new classes at LVS, as well as mine, so please drop by LVS just to see what a wonderful variety of courses we can offer you. Remember, our motto is “LVS – Where Learning is Fun” and I do my best to see that you do!!!

:) Hillary
