So stuffy….

Oh my.  I am just so stuffy today.  I am sure it’s allergy related but it still doesn’t help me feel better.  I am taking my medications, like a good patient, lol.  I’m drinking a lot of hot tea to help and making sure I get plenty of fluids.  It seems like warm compresses help me too so I’ve been doing that off an on as well.

I have thought about trying the nasal irrigation and have tried it a few times but haven’t really had a lot of success with that.  I have when I wen tto the doctor’s and had it performed but the ones I’ve tried at home haven’t really worked.

Sleep…….

Filed under: Medical Terminology — Melissa @ 12:48 am

Sleep is something that I think most of us push to the end of our to do list.  It’s something that we think have wiggle room in it.  I know this is something that I am guilty of doing.

I am going to be working on changing this….so that I am more rested.  I find that I feel much more energetic and clear headed when I get my sleep in.

Dental health…

Recently my eight year old had a horrible battle with a tooth. Thankfully, we were able to get the tooth removed after many visits with various dentists and finally found a fabulous oral surgeon who removed the tooth, cleaned the area, and put her out. We were thrilled to have found him!
Because of our recent dental experience, I am even more adamant about the kids practicing excellent dental hygiene. Here are a few things I have found to be helpful in our house…
1. Use a timer. This ensures the kids are brushing their teeth for the correct amount of time.
2. Use the dental flossers that have handles. My kids seem to really use these a lot more.
3. Electric toothbrushes. It seems they are more eager to brush when they have an electric toothbrush.

So do you have any tips to share?

Staying healthy…

The weather is cold, rainy, and dreary today. With the cooler temperatures and being indoors more, it seems that it is harder to keep everyone healthy. I know that the local schools have sent home a few flyers with information on some of the local bugs that are going around the classrooms.
Here are a few tips to keep everyone healthy.
1. Wash your hands. This seems simple, right? It is amazing though how often this is over looked. Wash before and after meals, after cleaning/playing with your pets, if you sneeze or cough, and if they obviously seem dirty. Now, of course there are more times when you need to wash your hands. These are just a few.
2. Get enough sleep and rest. With all of the multi-tasking we do, it is tempting to push rest to the bottom of the old to do list. But resist!
3. Exercise.
4. Have a balanced diet.
5. Sneeze into a tissue or into your arm. The same goes for coughing. Remember to cover. And remind others to do the same.
6. Stay home if you’re ill. Again, sounds easy enough, right?

I hope these few tips have been helpful to you. Stay healthy everyone!
