Filed under: Medical Terminology — Melissa @ 2:04 pm

Here are some ways to have healthy bones.

1. Exercise

2. A well balanced diet, including the old favorite calcium.

3. Sunshine, which contains Vitamin D.  Of course, remember to wear your sunscreen :)

Taking care of yourself…

Filed under: Medical Terminology — Melissa @ 4:45 pm

I am always in need of a reminder to take care of myself.  It’s something that needs to be at the top of my to do list instead of being slowly pushed to the bottom.

I’m a busy married mom, own my own small business teaching online and onsite, completing health assessments, and selling medical products.  I have three children, ages 15, 13, and 8.  They are pretty active too with friends, sports, and other activities.

Here are a few of the ways that I have found help take care of my.  And I have to remind myself that if I’m not well I can’t help take care of others.

  • Get enough sleep.
  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Limit the amount of pop, mainly Diet Coke, that I drink every day.
  • Exercise several times per week.

So do you have any tips on maintaining your health?  I’d love to hear them.

Mosquitoes…

If you are like me, you spend more time outside with the warmer weather. For me, this means having to deal with mosquitoes. I am sure I am not the only one who has to deal with avoiding these little creatures or pay the consequence of having itchy red bites.
Do you have any tricks or suggestions on how to avoid being bitten? I’d love to hear your ideas!

Are we too eager to just “pop a pill”?

What do you think? Do you think that we just take a medication instead of fixing the real problem? An example of this could be for cholesterol–where someone continues to eat a diet high in fat and cholesterol and thinks that taking a pill will “cover and take care of it all”. What do you think of this? Do you think this is the case sometimes? All thoughts and opinions are welcome smile

Summer vacations…

Are you planning on a family vacation this year?  We are thinking about taking a few smaller trips.  With three kids, it can be a challenge to first pick a destination, second, pack and get ready, and third have a good time, lol.

I always try to make sure I also pack a first aid kit, complete with any extras that we might need such as junior ibuprofen.  Here are  a few things that I have in ours.

Band Aids of many sizes

Antibiotic ointment

Medical tape

Various gauzes, like 2 x 2’s

Tweezers

Sting relief pads

Alcohol pads

Gloves

Ibuprofen, Adult and Junior

Acetaminophen

What about you?  What do you have in your first aid kit?
