Student Projects – November Session

October 26th, 2009 Kat Posted in Flash, Student Projects | 13 Comments »

Classrooms for the November 2009 session are open! The first lesson will post on Saturday, October 31st. After completing each lesson, students will submit their assignment for review on the private class message board. We would also like students of all Flash classes to post their movie project here on the Flash Class blog. Share what you learned with others and show off your creations!

Thanks ~ Kat and Frieda :)

  1. First week in Flash. The class is very interesting for me, but nearly everything is new. (I’m still trying to figure out how I managed to turn a star fish into a one-winged butterfly.)

I’ve use gradients before teaching PowerPoint classes, but these tools are a lot better. I’m still trying to understand alpha and how it relates to colors, but that will come with some practice. I think it will become clear when I start to overlay other objects with it. (That appears to be its purpose.)

The most frustrating part of the class has nothing to do with the instructional materials. MX2004 and Vista don’t play well together. MX2004 crashes every once in a while. I haven’t had time to make a custom XP install disk with the drivers I need here (and they don’t come by default with XP), so I just save a lot. (The only update I’ve found for MS2oo4 so far brings it up to a level below the version I’m running.

  2. I know what you mean–My first assignment turned out completely different than I intended, because I did something accidentally and liked it, so I went with it. This is fun!

  3. Here’s my first project. I had a great time doing this. It takes some time to get used to the tools. I’ve worked a lot in Photoshop, so I know what I expect the tools to do…but they don’t always work the same way in Flash. It’s an adventure!

  4. Okay here’s my project for Week 2. I had the hardest time using the Pen tool! But the Subselection tool was a big help. And, as Frieda pointed out, I should have made the letters all symbols–I never even thought of that. Ah, well. Next week.

    I’m learning a lot!!

  5. Week 3 was great! I’m so happy that we’re finally animating, and things are starting to move. The onion skin tool is a huge help in positioning. I had a hard time knowing how long the movie was going to be, and had to keep moving keyframes over. But I had so much fun with this. I really love this class!

  6. I have just finished the advanced Flash course. I had a lot of problems at the beginning trying to get my movies into a web page. I got weeks behind. Finally I figured out how to it & then it was a matter of trying to catch up.

Week 1 we looked at effects that come “pre-packaged” in flash. As you can see, there are lots of cool animation effects that are so easy to do.

Week 2 we learnt how to use behaviours – more cool things that can be done at the click of a button.

In week 3 of the advanced class we made a flash webpage. Mine isn’t great as I was still trying to catch up, but check out the very cool scrapbooks in it. Drag & move the pics to see them properly.

Week 4 we looked at some more cool animation effects. My favourites are move in a circle and checkerboard.

  10. http://www.sue-francis.com/Flash/week_5/suewk5.html
Week 5 we looked at components – lots of buttons, but also a cool scroll-bar (click refresh to see it) and a progress bar for a slideshow that unfortunately we didn’t learn how to make.

In the advanced class, week 6 was all about embedding text and pictures and a pdf into a textbox. We also made our own css styles to apply to the text.

Once again I learnt a heap over these 6 weeks – I hope my efforts encourage some of you to keep going with your flash classes.

For Week 5 in the Intro class, we made some Flash buttons–this was fun! And useful, too–I can think of a million ways to implement these in websites.

This is the last assignment of the Intro class. Buttons which trigger pop-ups. I got hung up on the Javascript for the longest time–ironic, since I’m also taking a Javascript class right now! But once I figured it out, it was pretty easy. It makes me want to keep going–and I will–I’m taking the Intermediate class that starts in January, and I’m really looking forward to it.
