Process of Writing Standard American English

There are many steps involved in the process of writing Standard American English. This course is designed to help you improve your writing skills and effectively write an essay.

 

Below are just a few elements of the writing process.

Audience:  Determine who is your audience will be. For academic purpose your audience will be your classmates and Instructor.     

Purpose:  Determine why you are writing about this topic besides the fact that you are assignment a specific paper.

Form:  The form will depend on the audience, the purpose, and the content of your paper.  

Content:  The content will depend on audience, the purpose, and the form of your paper.  

Generate Ideas:  This can be accomplished by collecting secondary information, Brainstorming, Mapping, and Free writing    

Organize:  Outline and group ideas your ideas together.  

Paragraphs:  Sentences about a single idea or topic:

Unify subtopics and supporting sentences     Coherence of ideas in a logic and meaningful pattern to paragraphs                         

Transition sentences.

Edit:  Sentences, grammar, mechanics, spelling, and proofread for errors.   

Helpful hint: Read your paper out load because this will help you to notice surface errors or if possible have someone else edit your paper for you.  

Read:  After printing your paper look for mechanical and surface errors. If you find errors, you need to correct them before submitting your paper.

Many people are acquainted with some elements of composition, but not the necessary skills to succeed in a college level course. Why waste $200.00 – $400.00 on a college composition course only to fail and have to pay again to retake the course? You can successfully take this course for a fraction of the cost and then accomplish your goal in a college composition course!

The focus of this course is to provide the student with the necessary skills needed to accomplish writing effective college and work essays. This will be accomplished by active participation in the lessons: Introduction Composition, Composition and Research, Research Process, Compare and Contrast Process, Critical Analysis Process, and Argumentative Process. This will provide you with more confidence in your writing skills, which in turn will improve your writing skills. The writing process consists of several elements which include invention and free-writing. Other aspects are organization shelling, outlining, drafting, and revisions. Other areas of focus will be on clarity and supporting evidence for your thesis.
