Web design links

A couple of interesting websites crossed my desktop this morning. While neither is directly CorelDRAW related, both have some excellent design advice for those dealing with graphics and the Web, so I thought I’d share.

1. Composition and Harmony 101 is a blog post on a great site called Snap2Objects that’s full of interesting things besides this one post, but it’s a good first read. Be warned that there is some visual material on the site that could be considered objectionable for those with young teens looking over their shoulders or with very conservative sensibilities. That said, the author walks the reader through the various elements of design and composition and gives some excellent and modern examples of each.

2. The next site is really a compilation of good advice for those designing web pages. Called The do’s & don’ts of modern web design, it’s a well documented list of other pages dealing with common web design issues. Some of it has to do with coding, some with design. It’s all listed in one column of Do’s and one of Don’ts. There’s some great stuff in there, some common sense stuff, and some really obscure stuff. Unfortunately the main navigation is a bit wonky on my SeaMonkey browser (seems like a Don’t to me) but certainly worth taking a look at. Looks like new tips are being added on a regular basis, and all are rated as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced so you can pull out those tips that are right on your level.

Remember that LVS has some great classes if you’re interested in learning to build web sites. Registration is open now for the session starting May 11.
