Tell us who you are and which class(es) you are enrolled in. Feel free to add comments to let us know how LVS has affected your life. You don’t even have to have taken a CorelDRAW class to post.

We love hearing from you! Thanks for sharing with LVS staff, fellow LVS students and our blog visitors!

  1. I am a retired CAD drafter who loves taking online classes at LVS. Each semester brings a new class and something new to learn. I am taking PSP and Vue classes and have also taken XaraXtreme class.

I use Corel’s PSPXI and love it. I don’t know what CorelDRAW can do but the free shipping sounds good. Perhaps a drawing program will add another tool to my arsenal and give me another class to enjoy

  2. Hi Nancy! Thanks for the comment. CorelDRAW can do many of the same sorts of things that CAD programs can, but it has a lot more of the artistic/design elements than most CAD programs. If you enjoy PSP and Vue, I suspect you’d have a lot of fun with CorelDRAW as well. Not only that, but I’d love to have you in class!
    Have fun!

  3. While work, family and health demands keep me from giving my all to the classes, they’ve been lifesavers. They provide challenge and exercise the old brain cells well not to mention raising one’s self-esteem. CorelX3, Painter and a couple others I cannot recall. Thank you for this opportunity! I’ll keep coming around. Unfortunately there isn’t enough time to post in all the classrooms!

  4. Thanks for posting, Linda! I do hope to continue “seeing” you around in the LVS “halls”.
    Have fun!

I’m enrolled in Digital Darkroom w/PSPP X1 and I’m finding it to be a powerful foundation for retouching digital images. I’m looking forward to the continuation of my digital imaging education through LVS Online. –Stuart

P.S. I believe I used the first iteration of CorelDRAW along with the incredibly diverse Corel thematic image libraries. Would CorelDRAW have been considered a counterpart to Adobe Illustrator?

  6. Hi Stuart! Thanks for posting. Yes, many consider CorelDRAW to be a direct competitor for Adobe Illustrator. Don’t know if it would have been back at version 1 or not. CorelDRAW has come a very long way from the first few versions. I’m pretty sure I started with version 3. At least that’s the earliest copy I’ve been able to find any record of around here.
    Have fun!

  7. Thank you for the welcome Val. What is the difference between Painter and CORELDraw (or is that CorelDRAW, lol?)

Forgot to say that my name is Nancy Griffin and I live in the state of Illinois USA about 40 miles west of Chicago.

  8. Nancy/Burpee,
It’s CorelDRAW (and not the other way around.) Painter is primarily a pixel based natural art mimic program that also does a lot with photographs. CorelDRAW is primarily vector based, though the graphics suite does include a photo/bitmap editor called PhotoPaint. You can also do a lot with bitmaps from with the CorelDRAW program itself. However, it’s strength lies in the vector and page layout arenas. CorelDRAW is used heavily in the Sign industry for design work and also in the embroidery and silk screen industries. Lots of folk also use it for day to day page layout tasks like creating sales brochures and catalogs since it is capable of producing multi-paged documents. It’s also well suited to logo design.
It isn’t a full fledged publishing program like Ventura or Quark, but for smaller jobs it more than adequately can handle the work. Personally, I’ve used it for illustration and brochures many times over the years.
CorelDRAW Graphics Suite is a great addition to just about any graphics arsenal.

  9. I just completed the Build series this time around. The classes are very good and the instructors are dedicated. I can’t wait for classes to start up again here at LVS!

  10. Hi Bonnie! Yes, the Build Your Website series is great! That’s actually how I got started with LVS several years ago. Of course, the series has been updated several times since then to keep up with Web standards.
Have a great break. The next session will be here before you know it.
    Have fun!

Corel Draw sounds like something I would enjoy. Right now I’m taking the Astrological Card Reading class. I have worked with PhotoImpact, and this class might be just the thing I need to continue with my new found interest.

  12. CorelDRAW is a tremendously fun program. It makes a great vector and layout compliment to programs like PSP or Painter. Check it out here:

I’d love to have you join us in class!

  13. Just finished the Corel draw 1 class and it was a lot of fun. Had taken the ver 12 one a few years ago but I stll learned a few new things. I plan to take the 2nd part of the class and maybe even a few others in the future. It’s always good to learn something new.

    Thanks

  14. Thanks, Tim! I’m glad you enjoyed the class. :)
    See you next session!
