  1. I’m still looking for writing on yoga that I find to be exceptional. I haven’t found anything terrible. I think all of it is effective, but still looking for something that stands out. While thinking about the subject I found a piece of writing that was a turned me off from his site.

I am interested in publishing eBooks so have a feed coming in on the subject. I received a notice from a guy who started a blog and asked for help on publishing eBooks. He said:

“Hello reader, this will be a short but direct post, this entry is a direct question for you, as you could noticed it with the title. With the launching of Mr Javo dot Com 2.0, I want to launch (with a newsletter) a free ebook. I already have the topic and everything I want to write there, but the problem is that I have never written an ebook or something similar, and I want to do this good.”

I did not respond because people always get pissed off when I correct their grammar. But he needs to learn how to write well with correct grammar before he even begins.

  2. sliloh says:

I think the problem is that English is not his first language.

  3. Mr Javo says:

@Adele That’s right. My first language is spanish, and I would like to hear your feedbacks, I appreciate that.

  4. Talmadge says:

After listening to people reporting the news and announcing sporting events, I believe that English is not their first language either.

    Glaring examples:
    had “went”
    I “seen” it
    “them” things
    “there” personal belongings
She went to dinner with Joe and “I”

The list goes on and on. Newspaper writers are almost as bad.

  5. Bean says:

No doubt that there is a lot of writing out there that is incorrect or in some cases just plain awful. But I am curious, have you found any writing that engaged you? Any writing that stimulated your intellect or made you laugh? Or maybe some writing that was so informative that you felt compelled to bookmark it as a resource?

Adele you are correct, there are many that are offended when their grammar is corrected. However, it seems like Mr Javo recognizes the need and is open to your suggestions. I must admit that is refreshing to see a writer acknowledging where shortcomings lie and asking for assistance.

  6. Responding to Talmadge – yes I hear those glaring examples on television every day! And I don’t mean in sit-coms, but the news people and pundits.

And Bean and Mr. Javo, whew – am happy that I didn’t offend – because dumb dumb me didn’t think that Mr. Javo would be reading this.

I do have a good example I just found at Zenhaabits:

“Attack Your Limitations: Turn Your Weaknesses Into Strengths”

    http://zenhabits.net/2008/09/attack-your-limitations-turn-your-weaknesses-into-strengths/

I found this interesting, helpful, relevant and engaging.

  7. Hi Bean. I posted two sites in my assignment that I thoroughly enjoy reading… both for the ability to see serious life from a lighter perspective, and for the writing itself. If Mama Don’t Laugh, It Ain’t Funny, http://www.ifmama.com/blog.php, and Chris Brady’s blog on leadership and other stuff, http://chrisbrady.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/09/bail-out-plan.html are two I like going to often.

I agree with Talmadge about today’s journalists — and it’s not just journalists. My well-trained ear (both parents were English teachers who taught me the language even at the dinner table! and pretty much always followed the rules) hears and my mind corrects the errors. I’ve even corrected books I own. It’s a curse actually, because “I seen” and the like do nail-scratches on a chalk board inside me. I wish it weren’t so.

On the other hand, I am involved in some International art forums, and I thoroughly enjoy reading posts by people breaking my English to make themselves understood. It’s musical to me. I guess I just love language……….. In my next life I will study several of them. :)

  8. Sherry says:

Personally, I think Barb’s blog, http://paintedgenerations.com/blog/ is beautifully written. When I read her posts, I feel like I am right there having coffee. Her writing has inspired me to keep trying.

  9. I personally liked this blog I found informative yet easy to relate to

  10. Karey says:

I did a lot of searching today, and I keep going back to A List Apart, at http://www.alistapart.com/articles/. Well, that is a subpage but not only is the language clean and easy to read, the layout is incredibly organized and you don’t get lost. Some well worded blogs can be disorganized, with lots of ads and other mismatched items all around. So much so that it is hard to read. This is both well written and well laid out.
