Each session the topics for the Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune class, are determined by the students.

In addition to the lessons, all students enrolled in this blogging studio have access to the library, which will contain past lessons on topics like Twitter, 43 Things, image galleries, comment plugins and theme customization for comment threading.

The Blogging Basics course is for those brand new to blogging. In this introduction course we focus on creating a plan for your blog, setting up your blogand the basics of good blog writing. We also learn how to make your blog a multimedia experience!

Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune

Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune is a totally different kind of online course for bloggers. Students offer support and critiques of each others work while building social networks. Although there are short lessons each week, the content of those lessons are determined by the need, interest and the desires of the students. Topics include social networking like Twitter, blog promotion, modifying themes, search engine optimization and increasing conversation. We work together to promote our blogs and to stay on top of the best blogging tools.

Blogging Basics: Intro to Blogging class  

Learn the blogging basics or step up and discover the benefits of the blogosphere in the new blogging classes at LVS Online. Bean has modified her popular Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune classes into two distinct offerings. The first course Blogging Basics, covers the nuts and bolts of blogging. It is designed as an introductory blogging course and is suited for personal and professional blogs.  We be using the WordPress blogging platform for our examples and demos, but other platforms will be mentioned.

Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune: Promote your blog

The second course, the revised Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune class will function as more of a blogging studio and is in response to students requesting a “lifetime membership”.  Although it is really easy to start blogging, once you begin you can see how how multi-faceted it is. You can take your blog in many differnt directions or choose from a wide assortment of goals. You can evolve and refine your blog posts from good to compelling.  You can gain an appeciative audience as you gain authority. You gain authority from participation. Although the core context of the course will remain the same from session, each session the students will have the opportunity to make choices about what type of template modification we will tackle or which social networking site we want to explore in detail. In November session we might devote time and attention to Blog Catalog and changing CSS styles in our templates. In January, we might focus on Weblog and modifying what appears with each post on our home page.

Blogger’s Studio to build content and community for you blog

This Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune class is designed for those that really want to promote their Word Press blog for professional gain or personal satisfaction. Students can take it once or sign up repeatedly for their “lifetime membership”. Students will learn from the lessons, instructor examples and more importantly from each other as they support and offer each other feedback and information.

I will be creating a blogroll of all student blogs this session. Please add a comment to this post that gives us the web address/URL of your new blog. You can also use the comments here to find a classmate’s blog to visit and comment on for the last portion of your assignment.

Get blogging!

In the first week of Blogging for Fun, Fame and Fortune, we spend a lot of time looking at different blogs. We look at little blogs, big blogs, indie blogs, corporate blogs and everything in between. Part of the reason is to get a scope of blog diversity. Another reason is to initiate students into blogging communities. The third reason that I have students look at so many blogs is to help them get a sense of what works and what doesn’t work for them with blogs. This can encompass topic, style, perspective and more.

For part of this week’s assignment, I am asking that students comment on this post. The comment should state your personal favorite blog that you reviewed this week and a couple of sentences of why it was your favorite. The comments on this blog are moderated. The first time you post on this blog, I must approve the comment before it will appear.  So don’t fear if you don’t see your comment go live right away.

Blogging is taking the world by storm! The heart of its power lies in its immediacy of publishing information, the ease of setting up and maintaining a blog and its interaction with its users. Blogs are used for everything from private family updates to journals to product reviews to photo journals to political podiums. As well as being a satisfying outlet on a personal level, blogs can be powerful business tools. Businesses, from freelancers to large corporations like Boeing, are using blogs to promote their products/services, gain and maintain customer loyalty, obtain customer feedback, and communicate news to their customers.

During this course, you will learn about the art and science of blogging. We will use the popular and FREE WordPress software to install and administer our blog. We touch upon styling the blog to match your style and topic. We will cover how to write engaging titles and blog posts, how to use blog directories, how to build authority in the blogging world and how to share your blog with others. We will focus on the interactive nature of blogging and how to increase participation on your blog without a lot of spam.

Not all blogs will gain you fame and fortune but they all can be fun! For those blog topics that are conducive to it, we will also cover revenue streams like tip jars, affiliates, advertisements and sponsorships. Some bloggers, Like SimpleBits and Lockergnome, have turned their blogs into fulltime businesses.
