The death toll from the bush fires in Australia is 181 and counting, but you can help. The power of blogging and social networking are not to be denied! Sitepoint, an Australian web designcompany, is offering a huge sale on their excellent pdf books. You can buy five books for the price of one and 100% of the proceeds will go to benefit the brush fire victims. The sale goes through 2/13 so you will want to take advantage of this offer quickly. The loss of home and livelihood has been staggering and the Australian brush victims are in desperate need of assistance now.
As bloggers, you can help the relief effort for Australian bush fire victims in two different ways. First, you can leverage the power of your blog and your social network to spread the word about the need of the brush fire victims, and the opportunity to make a difference. Second, consider purchasing books for your own benefit. They have some great titles about web design that can be fantastic resources for those of you that want to create your own blog themes or customize the ones that you currently use. The freelancing book is a useful resource regardless if you are freelancing art, photography, consulting or web design.
Here are some books that I think may be of particular interest for blogging students:
The Principles of Beautiful Web Design
The Principles Of Successful Freelancing
The Photoshop Anthology: 101 Web Design Tips, Tricks & Techniques – PDF Only
The CSS Anthology: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks & Hacks, 2nd Edition
Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS
The PHP Anthology: 101 Essential Tips, Tricks & Hacks, 2nd Edition
Once you have selected your books, be sure to use the form here to get the sale pricing and to make sure that all proceeds go to the brush fire victims.

Thank you Bean — I ordered 5 of these titles. I may not be able to READ them — joke — but if only one makes sense to me, it will be worth the $$. Not to mention — that’s a small donation indeed to all our Aussie friends. (There are several on the painting forums I participate in.) My hat is off to the SitePoint folk for doing this…

Hi Bean,
After it dawning on me that these were PDF versions rather than actual books, I decided to go ahead and order 5 titles, after all, if they’re in my computer, then I do not have to find shelf space for them…lol.
Seriously though, in addition to buying these books, I’m going to post a link on my blog for direct donations through the Australian Red Cross, and I’ll also add it here.

It’s truly horrifying the devastation and loss of life which is taking place down under.

Wow! Thanks for the update Shane. I am so glad that the money is coming in. I know a lot of my students have been getting great deals while supporting the victims of the Australian brush fires. Thank you to Sitepoint and my students for making a difference.
